Genbu
Genbu—known in Chinese as Xuanwu—is the mythical guardian that presides over the north in the tradition of the Four Guardian Beasts. Traditionally depicted as a turtle entwined with a snake, it symbolizes water, winter, and the quiet cycles through which life is sustained. In this work, Tomoya Tachibana combines an organic form inspired by the turtle with the surrounding vegetation and flowing water of ESPACIO The Hakone Geihinkan Rin-Poh-Ki-Ryu, expressing the quiet vitality associated with the northern realm.
Tomoya Tachibana
Tachibana completed the Master's Program in Metalwork at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1999. He subsequently established Studio Tachibana. Focusing on commissioned projects in Japan and abroad, he creates spaces that evoke emotional responses through the thoughtful combination of materials and techniques suited to each setting.
