Scenery of Light - Pine Tree -

For many years, Takeharu Nakabayashi has pursued a series of metal sculptures inspired by trees. In addition to pine, his motifs include cherry blossom, plum, maple, zelkova, and pomegranate. Working with materials ranging from stainless steel to glass, he does not seek literal realism. Instead, as the artist explains, "When a tree is translated into three-dimensional form, a new inner landscape emerges." In this sense, the sculpture can be understood as an embodiment of the memory of a pine tree rather than its physical appearance.
