Poetry of Light
Part of a series of gold-leaf paintings that change with the seasons, Poetry of Light depicts pampas grass swaying beneath an autumn moon. The tranquil scene of its delicate plumes shimmering in the moonlight and gently moving in the breeze evokes a timeless image of autumn deeply rooted in the Japanese imagination. Higashiomi describes "the shimmering light upon the pampas grass" and "the sound of the wind" as "a poetic message carrying the words of the moon.
Izumi Higashiomi
Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1979, Higashiomi graduated from the Department of Japanese Painting at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2003. In 2005, she completed a Master's degree at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. She is the recipient of several design awards and served as a part-time lecturer at Tokyo University of the Arts from 2010 to 2012. From 2024 to 2025, she served as a juror for the Artist Follow-up Project organized by the Chiba Prefectural Cultural Promotion Foundation. She has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions.
