Embraced Pine Tree
This monumental work depicts a pine tree surrounded by seasonal flowers and birds. Every detail—from the delicate pine needles and textured trunk to the intricate feathers of the pheasant—has been meticulously rendered using an ultra-fine brush, stroke by stroke. The extraordinary craftsmanship and countless hours devoted to the work imbue it with a vivid sense of life.
Toyomi Yaehara
Born in Nagano Prefecture in 1953, Yaehara is Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. He has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the 12th Paris Biennale at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris [1982] and VOICE OF SITE at the SVA Gallery, New York [2005]. For this *fusuma* painting, the artist adopted the name "Yaehara," taken from his hometown in Nagano Prefecture, rather than using his family name, Hoshina.
