The imagery of the Four Guardian Beasts lies at the heart of this series, whose intricate kumiko patterns are composed of countless interlocking wooden elements. Created for the Kizuna and Musubi guest suites, the works reflect the ideas of connection, harmony, and the Japanese concept of Musubi—the bringing together of people, relationships, and meaningful ties. Through repeating geometric patterns and finely crafted intersections, the works express both the complexity and the quiet beauty of human connection.
Masanobu Shiozawa
Born in Iida, Nagano Prefecture, in 1973, Shiozawa exhibited at the National Joinery Exhibition in 2001, becoming the youngest recipient of the Prime Minister's Award. In 2013, he was selected for the Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition) for the first time. He regularly holds solo exhibitions at the Ginza Mikimoto Main Store in Tokyo and at leading department stores throughout Japan. In 2019, he received the Contemporary Crafts Award at the Japan Contemporary Crafts Art Exhibition.
