A series of sculptural objects combining porcelain clay and glass. Embracing the inherent characteristics of the materials—including cracks, chips, and wrinkling in the glaze—the works celebrate the colors and forms shaped through natural processes. Their quiet presence evokes the rich relationship between the human hand and the forces of nature.
Machiko Ogawa
Born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, in 1946, Ogawa graduated from the Department of Crafts at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1969. From 1969 to 1971, she undertook ceramic training at the Paris Polytechnic Institute. Between 1972 and 1975, she worked as a research assistant to her husband, an anthropologist, studying local ceramic traditions throughout West Africa. Recent exhibitions include Omine (Sibunkaku, Kyoto, 2024), Machiko Ogawa Exhibition (Galerie Frank Elbaz, Paris, 2025), and Art Basel Paris (2025).
